Obituary

GILLESPIE, Donald Hay

1943 – 2022

Passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at the Timmins and District Hospital on Friday April 15th, 2022. Beloved husband of Sally. Cherished father of McEwen, William (Susan) and late Duncan Gillespie. Dear brother of his sister Jean (Bob) Fenato, his twin brother William (Late Gisèle) and his younger brother Ross (Colleen) Gillespie. Predeceased by his parents William and Ann Gillespie and his mother-in-law Janet Snow. He will be sadly missed by his father- in-law William Snow, and his brother-in-law Tom (Patsy) Snow. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends and travelling companions George and Catharine Cribbs.

Don was a quiet, thoughtful gentleman with a wicked sense of humour. He loved to host friends in our home and delighted in feeding his guests.

Teacher with the Timmins Board of Education / District School Board Ontario North East, for many years at R. Ross Beattie Senior Public School and other schools in the area.

He sang with the South Porcupine United Church Choir and later the Covenant United Church Choir. His love of music was also on display singing karaoke at Jakes with his sons.

He was an active member for many years with the South Porcupine Lions Club. He enjoyed reading, movies, gardening, and walking the dogs. Magpie, Mozzi, and Meredith are left behind to comfort Sally.

Thanks to the entire staff at Timmins and District Hospital, St. Mary's Site, for their compassionate care of Don. Their support and understanding exhibited to Sally and the Gillespie family was much appreciated. Donations in Don’s memory can be made to the Timmins and District Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and a private family Memorial Service was held. A public graveside service will be announced this summer. Arrangements entrusted to Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON, (705) 235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net
