Gerald Joseph DeCario
March 2, 1939 – July 21 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald J. Decario (Gerry) on the morning of Thursday July 21st 2022. Gerry passed away at the St. Vincent’s Langara care residential facility after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Gerry was born on March 2nd, 1939 and spent his childhood in South Porcupine, Ontario. He first studied Geography at Loyola/Concordia University in Montreal and then decided to attend law school and graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1968. Shortly thereafter he settled in Vancouver, British Columbia where he became a very well-known and respected lawyer. Gerry was also a businessman and entrepreneur having invested in many projects including co-owning the Homestead Neighbourhood Pub in Richmond BC. Gerry was a true host & publican and enjoyed spending time with friends and family over a nice meal, glass of wine or beer.
Gerry is predeceased by his parents Antonio Vito DeCario and Maria (Santa) DeCario. He is survived by his loving wife Pilar, brother Vito, sisters Angela and Mary and bonus daughter of 52 yrs. Ulrika. Gerry has many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews, step-daughters and step grandchildren, as well as many friends that will miss him dearly.
Gerry will be cremated and interred at Oceanview Burial Park on Tuesday Sept. 13 at 12 noon PST. A mass was held in his honour on 13th August at St. Joachim parish in South Porcupine, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gerry’s name to Parkinson’s Canada www.parkinson.ca.
