Gerry Kingsbury Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Gerry Kingsbury

November 15, 1965 – October 6, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Gerry, at the age of 57, with his family by his side, following his courageous 6-month battle with lung cancer. Gerry was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and true friend to many. He is survived by his loving life partner and wife Maria (Barbuto), his son Joshua (Cassandra DiBella), and his daughters Tiana and Gabriella. Gerry also leaves behind his mother Edna (Ron), his brothers, Don (Yvonne), Denis, Norm (Wendy), Guy (Rachel) and his loving nieces & nephews. Gerry will be missed by his Barbuto family; Sam, Peter (Jackie), Mario (Chrissy), Cecilia D’Angelo (Frank), Tony (Debra) and his loving nieces & nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his father Georges and by his in-laws, Rose and Antonio Barbuto.

Gerry loved life and was committed to helping others. He worked at Newmont for over 20 years as an underground miner, open pit truck driver and a driller. He was also so very passionate with his health and safety position to ensure that he and his fellow colleagues were always safe and able to go home to their families.

Gerry was very friendly, and personable, always stopping to have conversations with people he knew. Over the years, he formed many friendships especially in his hockey, golf, baseball, soccer, skidoo and motorcycle world and he gave thanks every day for his close friends during these challenging times especially Chris Brousseau, Rob Cronmiller, Eric Scofield, Dan Bouvier, Randy Brazeau, Kris Ouellette and Mike Lavoie.

Gerry had a love for his motorcycle and was surprised beyond words during his last ride a month ago with his good friend Chris and a surprise visit by his friends Pascal and Terry from Gatineau. He loved you all. He will miss his snowmobile rides with his close friends, they know that he will be riding with them, keeping them safe.

Gerry was known as a sport enthusiast and his passion for hockey led to coaching young children when his son Joshua started hockey at five years old. He volunteered many hours to share his knowledge to ensure young hockey players would excel. He was so proud of the many goalies that he coached over the years, especially Dylan Dallaire.

Gerry had an opportunity to coach his children Joshua and Gabriella in hockey and share his own knowledge of basketball with Tiana. Even though they had wonderful coaches, Gerry always made sure not only to cheer as a dad but also coach from the side lines. Joshua, Tiana and Gabriella are forever grateful for all the lessons shared by their dad to become better players in their sport, but more importantly better people in life. His greatest gift was his three children and the accomplishments they had achieved.

Gerry and his love Maria were always together and created a happy home full of love and laughter. During this past summer, they grew a beautiful garden in their backyard and this passion was enjoyed daily, in the sun, and relaxing on their deck sharing moments together and creating beautiful memories. Our hearts break that Gerry has left us too soon. Gerry was a strong man and had a positive outlook throughout these challenging times, always thinking and fighting for his family.

We want to thank his medical team who supported us during these last 6 months and while in Hospice, Health Sciences North, Dr. Emack, Dr. Shehata, Dr. Smith, and in Timmins, Marnie Chisholm, Nancy Metsala, Dr.Hopkins, the Bayshore Nurses, Nick and Amy, and the hospice nurses Karine, Sherri, Katrina and Jessica. Dr. Parr, our family doctor and who we call our friend was outstanding with Gerry and our family, with all the conversations, support, and many visits during this heartbreaking journey. Words cannot express the gratitude Gerry and the family felt with you by their side.

A special thank you to our wonderful sister-in-law Chrissy, who provided us guidance and comfort especially in the last three weeks.

Rest in peace, Gerry, Dad, we miss you with all our hearts. Please continue to guide us in life, watching over us as our Sweet Angel.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to KidSport and Northeastern Ontario Children's Foundation (through NEOFACS) would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
