Guy Mitchell Obituary

In Loving Memory of

MITCHELL, Guy Galsworthy

1932-2020

The family announces with sorrow the unexpected passing of Guy at the Timmins and District Hospital on Saturday March 21st 2020. Beloved husband of Gil (née Stebbins) of 50 years. Loving father of Mike (Lynda) Mitchell, Judy (Vince) Patitucci, Jackie (Nick) Gooderham, Jennifer (Julian Lia) Mitchell.

Cherished grandfather of Carlo (Tiffany), Guy (Kiana), Kevin, Marino, Michelle, Hilary, Evan, Lauren and Emmilie and great-grandfather of Nevaeh, Domenico and Camilla.

He is survived by his brother-in-law Rene (Theresa) Stebbins, sister-in-law's Margo Hubert, Lucille Garant, Rose Stebbins. He will also be missed by Elizabeth Wolfe, Anne Weiser, and Irene Maidorn, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Guy was predeceased by his first wife Margaret (née Wolfe), his parents Muriel and Frederick Galsworthy Mitchell, sister Sheila Eagle, brother in laws, Tony Eagle, Raymond Stebbins, Roy Garant, Walter Wolfe, Jack Wolfe, and Clifford Wolfe, Werner Maidorn, Helen Wolfe, and Klaus Weiser.

Founder and President of Mitchell Equipment Services Ltd. and Pitbull Mine Equipment, Guy was a well-respected member of the Timmins business community for more than 20 years, known for his honesty, fairness and skill.

In addition to his love of all things mechanical, he was also an avid lover of music.  Guy was a founding member of the Timmins Symphony Orchestra and continued to play trumpet in their symphony concerts for more than 41 years.  Alongside his wife Gil, Guy also entertained local audiences as a founding member of the Timmins All Star Big Band for more than 28 years as a trumpet player and vocalist.

Guy was a loving husband for 50 years; a father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a loyal friend to many; a Formula 1 enthusiast, handyman, inventor, engineer, artist and proud South African ex-pat.  His sense of humour, strong opinions, and gentle spirit will be missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Timmins Symphony Orchestra or the Timmins All Star Big Band.
