It is with deep sadness that we announce that Raffele (Ralph) Vincenzo Costante, born August 8, 1931, passed away on October 18, 2019, at the age of 88 with family by his side.

He will be lovingly missed by Yvonne Costante, his children Lance (Vanessa) Costante, Angela (Al) Tremblay, Derrick Costante, Kevin (Marg) Costante, and his stepchildren Arlene (Leo) Cote, Lori Hladin, and Jack Hladin. He leaves behind his grandchildren Sam, Alicia (Sean), Emma (Leon), Keegan, Leo, Rudy, Brady, Ludovic, and Shelly, and his great-grandchildren Vincent, Lillian, and Ethan. He is survived by his sister Kathleen Galick and his brother Tony (Phylliss) Costante.

Born and raised in Temagami, ON, the son of Francesco and Sylvia (Tripp) Costante, he spent the last 35+ years in South Porcupine.

In his younger years Ralph had a grocery store in Temagami and a restaurant in Martin River and worked for Lands and Forests. He was an avid prospector and his mineral business took him travelling across Canada and the US. He volunteered and later worked at Spruce Hill Lodge and continued working part-time jobs until the age of 79.

Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent many cold fall evenings on the river with Lance dipping for white fish. In his later years he enjoyed feeding the ducks at Gilles Lake. He loved travelling, preferring to be the passenger to take in the scenic views. He took several trips across Canada and the US with Angela, visiting the Grand Canyon and Vegas twice. He visited Ellis Island, where his dad arrived from Italy, but his most fondly remembered trip and the highlight of his travelling was visiting Italy with Kevin.

Ralph was a resident of the Golden Manor for the past three years. He loved making the staff laugh and always kept them on their toes. The family wishes to thank all the staff for taking such good care of him.

A funeral service will be held at Stinson’s Funeral Home on Wednesday October 23 at 11am. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday October 22. Internment will take place next summer in Temagami. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
