Taina Niskanen Obituary

Taina Niskanen of Matheson passed away suddenly on February 13th, 2024.  Her loss was completely unexpected, and her family is profoundly saddened. Taina will be remembered for her great kindness, her artistic flair and passion for life and all its opportunity. We love and miss you always. Taina Niskanen was born on December 19, 1962, in Matheson to Ellen and George Niskanen as the third of six siblings. Taina had a great heart and lots of compassion which suited her work with senior citizens. She had fond memories of being a tour guide for them and travelling into the States. Taina had one son Justin who was the focus of her life here in Matheson, as well as her cherished loving fur kid kitty Alfie. Taina was an amazing cook, from her perfect turkey to her finnish coffee bread, her dishes were something everyone looked forward to.  Taina was a cornerstone of Shadylane Farms, where her love of animals was on show. Her insistence on naming every calf and tending to them, to make them the friendliest dairy cows around.  She loved gardening and spent numerous hours out tending to her plants. Her artistry was a great passion of hers with her producing woven wool blankets and rag rugs on her loom. Then selling them with her artistic friends at art sales. Taina was predeceased by her mother Ellen. She is survived by father, George Niskanen, her siblings, Liisa (Henry) Tasanko, Sandra (Larry) Scott, Martti, Paul, MariLea (Tim). Cherished aunt to Erika (Kirby P), Adam (Rebecca), Christopher (Tania), Kirby (Andrew), Justin, Ryan, Grant (Emilie). Great aunt to Raija, Katja, Elli, Gavin, Elliot, Oliver, Gwenyth, Calla, Kinsley and Huxley.  Plus, any other kid that came her way. In lieu of flowers the family requests planting a tree in her memory, as Taina felt strongly about greening our world. Arrangements entrusted to Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON, P0N1H0 (705)235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net
